Closed-door Discussion on Creating Standards in Gold Value Chain in India Tuesday, 23rd January 2018

Standardisation in quality and price of gold had been a long standing problem in India. Existence of multiple caratage, discrepancy in fineness, and mismatch in purity of the gold are only few of the many problems that exists in the gems and jewellery sector. Moreover, the absence of a good delivery standard and a responsible gold sourcing policy have augmented this problem further, bringing inefficiency in the Indian gold value chain. To further the conversation on standardisation and purity of gold, Pahle India Foundation is organising a half day closed door roundtable which is being chaired by Smt. Surina Rajan, Director General, BIS and will be attended by selected members from the industry. The discussion is being held on Tuesday, 23rd January 2018 from 2.30 pm till 4.30 pm at The Willow Hall, 1st Floor, India Habitat Centre (IHC), New Delhi. The discussion will mainly be around creating standards in the gold value chain in India, hallmarking and its implication on the gems and jewellery sector, role of BIS in GMS, and industry perspectives on the BIS Act 2016 and BIS (Conformity and Assessment) Regulations 2017.
