The astounding success of the BJP in the 2014 general elections was attributed to Shri Narendra Modi and his party’s untiring campaign. Since the BJP won its majority in Lok Sabha and Modi took oath as Prime Minister, both the man and the party have seen their fair share of ups and downs in governing the nation. The extraordinary story of Modi’s rise through political ranks, his success as a Chief Minister, his vision for the nation as well as the challenges that need to be overcome for the realization of that vision comprise the narrative of the book ‘Modi and His Challenges’ written by Dr. Rajiv Kumar. The two primary motivations behind writing this book are one, determining whether Modi’s focus on economic growth and development agenda will put India on the path to success and two, to analyse Modi’s ideological foundations – separating him from the institutions he has been moulded by to understand his individual behaviour and responses. The book was released on 8th August 2016 by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Power in the presence of a panel that included Sir Mark Tully, former Bureau Chief of BBC, Shri T. N. Ninan, Chairman of Business Standard and Shri Rajiv Beri, Bloomsbury. The Hon’ble Minister lauded the book as a unique one that highlights Modi’s individual vision and characteristics, which define his approach towards governance and the economic growth of India.
