The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has been working on the development of production modes of biofuels like used cooking oil (UCO) based biodiesel. This dovetails with the National Biofuels Policy’s (2018) focus on stepping up production and adoption of biofuels. Pahle India Foundation has undertaken a study to assess the current status of biodiesel production in India, a detailed stakeholder and value chain mapping of sources, availability, and logistics of UCO, price build-up for UCO based biodiesel, and market for by-products of the biodiesel production process. The analysis is aimed at providing policy direction to support IOCL’s mandate on biofuels to achieve the target of 5 per cent biodiesel blending by 2030.
