Pahlé India Foundation released its study “Assessing the Net Impact of E-Commerce on Employment and Consumer Welfare in India”. Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal graced the launch event as the Chief Guest, and Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, was the Guest of Honour. As per the study findings e-commerce vendors have created around 16 million jobs across sectors like marketing, management, logistics, and delivery. Notably, online vendors employ 54% more people and nearly twice as many women as offline vendors. The study, conducted across 35 cities in 21 states and union territories with 12,000 participants—8,209 online consumers, 2,031 offline sellers, and 2,002 online sellers—provides a data-driven analysis of e-commerce’s impact on employment and consumer welfare, offering valuable insights for policymakers and industry leaders.
